The Story
The realm of The Wylder exists, foundationally, within the uncountable pages of an unfathomably long narrative, often referred to as simply: The Story. To be alive in this magical place is to experience The Story writing itself, and to play a part knowing that your personal story will be immortalized within the inscrutable volumes of The Wylder.
Magic
When the Wylder creates beings from our imaginations they’ll often exhibit abilities that we unintentionally gave them, and while most would absolutely appear magical to us, true magick in this world is something else entirely. If the Wylder exists as a story, magick can be considered at a fundamental level as the intentional rewriting of The Story.
Similar to how The Wylder aggregates and actualizes our hopes and fears into physical forms, so too does it respond to our beliefs concerning magic. The systems that we’ve created in our world in an attempt to understand and control our reality have a bit more of a profound impact within the Wylder; faith, arcane rituals, song & dance, alchemy, etc. are all different and viable mediums for conducting Magick since they are essentially different disciplines producing the same effect.

Regardless of the chosen medium, performing magick in this world is determined by three elements:
Skill
A being’s ability to execute within the chosen medium
Intent
The ability for The Story to interpret a being’s intent
Super-Ego/Intrinsic Harmonics
The extent to which a being and their intent align, ie an empathetic person will have more success with healing magicks than they will with destructive.
Sacrifice
One of the oldest and most powerful practices that humanity has steeped the Wylder in is the act of sacrifice. Some of our oldest belief structures taught that our reality is something that can be bargained with, that we could broker the present for the future by sacrificing resources, animals, and even other humans. These beliefs had a profound effect within the Wylder, particularly when it comes to Magick.
The Story, as a rule, does not appreciate being rewritten, and any gaps between an Editor’s skill, ability to convey their intent, and their super-ego harmony will be filled with a sacrifice from the user. And the greater the sacrifice, the greater the effect. Whether it be an offering made in the moment, or the loss of flesh, The Story cares not. It is therefore unfortunately common to see Editors in various states of disrepair, often missing eyes, fingers, or even multiple limbs, as they pit their ambitions against their capacity.
