Artist Notes 12/19/2019: Hey guys, happy Tuesday!
Hope you all are doing well!
This page literally went through three total ground up revisions while working on it… So I hope you guys think it turned out alright! ^ ^’ normally I’d post my draft layouts just to show you guys but 99% of what’s in them is now a part of next week’s page, so I don’t want to spoil it. >.>; But you guys will see soon enough!
…In other news, I might have a pretty exciting leap forward in my process of making the comic now! I ~might~ be able to do the entire thing on the iPad now! Thanks (maybe) to the Adobe Fresco app! Currently, I draw in Clip Studio Paint (which I love to bits) on the iPad. It’s the only program that feels like it’s made for people who’ve been doing digital art for a long time (as opposed to being traditional media artists trying digital for the first time) so I love that it felt totally seamless and natural moving to working on the iPad instead of on a computer (with a Cintiq… which is wonderful, but veeery clunky with all this fragile and expensive wires… which I’ve now had pets break TWICE). Starting to draw on the iPad felt like such freedom! …However, the wonderful watercolor brushes I use to make the comic are exclusive to Adobe products (Kyle Webster brushes) so up until this point I’m still stuck moving my files onto my computer to color them with Photoshop and the Cintiq. But I just tried out Fresco this week and holy crap ALL MY BRUSHES ARE THERE! It was surreal to be able to use them on the iPad! The app still has some issues… file management is a pain, layers don’t display with their names (and an average comic page for me is ~30 layers/and I have the ones I use consistently pre-labeled in my default page file) so that’s a real problem for me… But hopefully that’ll get fixed in the app eventually…? Idk, I’m really excited to play with it more and see how it improves. At least for pages that are more simple and routine to color (aka no magic is happening on them) it seems like it might be a godsend… We’ll see though. Hopefully this means I’ll be able to get colored pages up online MUCH more often in the near future though.
