Artist Notes 1/1/2020: Happy New Year! Sorry I didn’t get a page up last week on Christmas eve… the week was just… insane. I’ve never been so underprepared for the holidays before. XD

But if it’s any consolation I’ve got two pages this week! Be sure to click to the one 207 is up and next week I’ll be switching the “newest page” link to 208.

I wish you all the best this 2020! <3 I’m spending the evening in (for like… the zillionth year) for some reason I feel like I’m always working on MNM on NYE which… totally isn’t possible, but still. lol. Even if I wasn’t working on it I’d probably stay in–I love New Years but I feel too old to deal with the cold and the crowds when it comes to going out. XD

Anyway, totally unrelated to MNM I just wanted to leave you guys with something I learned this week that I’ve taken a lot of joy in, and it’s that there’s a New Years song? I had no idea Auld Lang Syne existed until this week but apparently it’s a big deal and it’s a very old and ubiquitous song. I heard about it in a really wonderful episode of the podcast The Anthropocene Reviewed (which I highly recommend checking out if you guys are into podcasts… Since getting Scout and needing to walk him all the time I’ve become a podcast junkie. XD) But anyway, Auld Lang Syne is an old Scottish song with the title roughly meaning “for old time’s sake” or “the good old days.” These are the lyrics… seems an appropriate message as we say goodbye to the decade:

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine†;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
And give me a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Have a happy new year everyone. <3
