Artist Notes 4/24/2017: Ah, this was such a fun page to draw. :,) But on to news already!

So technically I announced this on social media last night, but: Big announcement!

We’re gonna take Mag Na mell to Kickstarter NEXT WEEK! Still hammering out some final details but we’re gonna be putting together paperback volume 1 of Mag Na Mell!

It’s going to be roughly the first 80 pages, though I haven’t figured out exactly where I want to end it yet, but no less than 80 for sure! I’m also planning on including a pretty substantial section in the back filled with concept art, and more. :3

Also, I want to clarify it’s very important to me that this comic always be available for free online. In doing some research this past week I came across a really great Cory Doctorow quote on the subject: For me — for pretty much every writer — the big problem isn’t piracy, it’s obscurity… Of all the people who failed to buy this book today, the majority did so because they never heard of it, not because someone gave them a free copy.”

In fact, I have an anecdote for you all about this: Personally, I buy a good amount of books, but they’re most often books I’ve already read. I’m heavily dependent on recommendations from friend’s when it comes to what books I read, and those friends are usually generous enough to lend me their copy. For instance, I own EVERY Brandon Sanderson book, in an embarrassing number of cases I went to the trouble of buying the ebook AND the physical book, however the first ~5 of his books I read were borrowed copies, but that was many years ago now. So thanks to someone taking away the barrier of entry for me, Brandon Sanderson (or at least his publisher) made a lot of money off of me reading those initial books for free.

But I really value print media, and I love owning the physical copies of the series I enjoy, so we bring you this Kickstarter with that sentiment in mind. I really think we’re going to put something together that you guys will value too. 🙂

Having said that a lot of thought and planning have already gone into this, but there’s still some time to hammer out final details so if anyone has any suggestions of things they might want to see as reward tiers, or as bonus content in the back of the book, leave them in the comments, or shoot me a message on social media! I’d love to hear your thoughts!
