Episode 14:

Undercover Ethics

The crew awakes the next day and decides to set out early to receive their next assignment from Veo.

As the party walked through Beggars Bay, Shoal happened to notice a beggar attempting to pick Ana’s pocket and quickly prevented them. As Ana menaced the beggar for trying to steal, Rayna produced some coins to ease the beggar's trouble, which quickly drew the attention of all the poor and impoverished of the slums. As a large crowd began to gather, Rayna threw coins among the beggars and proclaimed that their group would need help from them when the time came.

The five reconnected with Veo at the StillTide Alehouse where she gave them their new contract. She instructed the group that they are to kill a Wulven who is the ward of a Toy noble named Cornelius Must; a member of the House Assembly who is the deciding vote on the Privateering Act. They are also to leave behind a note threatening to do the same to his family unless he votes “nay” on the upcoming legislation.

The party rapidly travels back to the Happy Seadog in order to discuss the matter in detail. They are torn about the job before them but determined to try and make something work in order to maintain their cover with the Greybloods. The group decides to make a trip to the safehouse in Keelhaul Heights where an agent of The Enforcers may be able to deliver a message to Lieutenant Commander Rochester about what they’ve been asked to do.

They explain the situation to Captain Atlas and he agrees with their plan to attempt to kidnap the ward and fake their death until the vote is complete. Atlas says he will begin to make preparations to keep the ward secret once they retrieve her and the group sets out to better prepare for their new objective.

Flynn takes a trip to multiple alchemist supply shops seeking to obtain the recipe and ingredients for a sleeping potion, but most of the shop proprietors seem sheepish to say they know anything about such a concoction.

Rayna and Reuben head to the City Plaza to see if they can learn anything from the working folk of the government district and surrounding estates. They take a table inside the Ye Old Cup Inn and pay for some expensive wine while they wait and listen to the folk around them. Eventually, they overhear some conversation between a group of Toys that appears to be guards for different nearby noble estates; including the Must Estate. Reuben heads over to the group and strikes up a conversation; ultimately learning that the Must Estate doesn’t keep a guard contingent in the interior of the manor overnight. The guard speculates that he thinks it’s because they trap it, but admits he’s never seen any traps…
